Burundi
Burundi is a landlocked country located in East Africa, bordered by Rwanda to the north, Tanzania to the east, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west. It lies in the African Great Lakes region and is part of the East African Community. The capital city is Gitega, though the largest city and former capital is Bujumbura. The country has a diverse topography, characterized by hilly terrain and a series of lakes, including Lake Tanganyika. Burundi has a predominantly agricultural economy, with coffee and tea as major exports. The nation is known for its rich cultural heritage, including traditional music and dance, as well as its history marked by ethnic tensions and civil conflict. The official languages are Kirundi, French, and English. Burundi has a population primarily consisting of the Hutu, Tutsi, and Twa ethnic groups, which have influenced its social and political landscape. The country gained independence from Belgium in 1962.
