Comoros

The Comoros is an archipelago located in the Indian Ocean off the eastern coast of Africa, situated between northern Madagascar and the mainland of Mozambique. It consists of three main islands—Grande Comore, Mohéli, and Anjouan—as well as several smaller islands. The Comoros is known for its volcanic landscapes, rich biodiversity, and cultural heritage, which reflects a blend of African, Arab, and French influences. The official languages are Comorian, Arabic, and French, and the population predominantly practices Islam. The Comoros has a history marked by political instability and has undergone numerous coups since its independence from France in 1975. The economy is primarily based on agriculture, fishing, and remittances from expatriates. The Comoros is also recognized for its production of essential oils and spices, particularly ylang-ylang.
