Eritrea is a country located in the Horn of Africa, bordered by Sudan to the west, Ethiopia to the south, and Djibouti to the southeast, with a coastline along the Red Sea to the east. It gained independence from Ethiopia in 1993 after a long struggle for liberation that lasted three decades. The capital and largest city of Eritrea is Asmara. The nation is characterized by its diverse cultures and languages, with Tigrinya, Arabic, and English as official languages. Eritrea has a mixed economy that includes agriculture, mining, and service sectors. The country is known for its varied geographical features, ranging from coastal plains to mountainous regions, and has significant historical sites and cultural heritage. However, it has faced challenges, including authoritarian governance, limited press freedom, and economic difficulties.
