Kiribati

Kiribati is a sovereign island nation located in the central Pacific Ocean. It consists of 33 atolls and reef islands, dispersed over a vast area of ocean. The country is known for its unique geographic location, straddling the equator and the International Date Line. The capital of Kiribati is South Tarawa, situated on one of the major atolls, Tarawa. The islands are characterized by their low elevation, making them vulnerable to rising sea levels and climate change. Kiribati’s culture and traditions are primarily influenced by its Polynesian heritage, and its economy relies heavily on subsistence fishing, copra production, and remittances from citizens working abroad.
