Liberia

Liberia is a country located on the west coast of Africa. It is bordered by Sierra Leone to the west, Guinea to the north, and Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) to the east, with the Atlantic Ocean to the south. Founded in the early 19th century by freed American slaves, Liberia established its capital at Monrovia, named after U.S. President James Monroe. The nation has a unique historical context, as it was established as a settlement for free African Americans seeking to escape slavery and discrimination in the United States.

Liberia is characterized by its rich natural resources, including timber, rubber, and minerals, and has a diverse population with multiple ethnic groups. The country has experienced significant historical challenges, including civil wars in the late 20th century, which have affected its development and stability. Despite these challenges, Liberia continues to work towards rebuilding and developing its economy and infrastructure. The official language is English, and the currency is the Liberian dollar. The country is known for its motto, “The Love of Liberty Brought Us Here,” reflecting its unique foundation and historical ties to the United States.
