Myanmar
Myanmar, also known as Burma, is a country located in Southeast Asia. It shares borders with India, Bangladesh, China, Laos, and Thailand. Myanmar has a diverse population with over 135 distinct ethnic groups, and its capital city is Naypyidaw, while its largest city and commercial hub is Yangon (Rangoon). The country’s geography features a variety of landscapes, including mountains, rivers, and coastal regions.
Myanmar has a rich cultural heritage, influenced by its history, religion, and the various ethnic groups that inhabit the region. The predominant religion is Buddhism, which plays a significant role in the daily lives of its people. The country has faced political turmoil and military rule for decades, impacting its development and international relations.
In 1989, the military government officially changed the name from Burma to Myanmar. This change has been a subject of contention and debate internationally, with some countries and groups continuing to use the name “Burma” as a sign of opposition to the military regime. Despite its political challenges, Myanmar is known for its natural beauty, historic pagodas, and vibrant traditions.
