In 2019, the country officially changed its name from FYROM to North Macedonia following a long-standing dispute with Greece over the use of the name “Macedonia.” The change aimed to promote regional stability and improve relations with Greece, which has a region also called Macedonia. North Macedonia is a parliamentary republic and is seeking membership in the European Union and NATO. The official language is Macedonian, and the country has a rich cultural heritage influenced by various civilizations throughout its history.
