South Sudan is a landlocked country located in East-Central Africa. It gained independence from Sudan on July 9, 2011, becoming the world’s newest sovereign state. The capital city is Juba. South Sudan is bordered by six countries: Sudan to the north, Ethiopia to the east, Kenya to the southeast, Uganda to the south, the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the southwest, and the Central African Republic to the west. The country is characterized by diverse ethnic groups and cultures, with a predominantly agricultural economy.
