Officially, the country gained independence from British colonial rule in 1980. Zimbabwe has a population that is primarily composed of various ethnic groups, with Shona and Ndebele being the largest. The economy of Zimbabwe has historically been based on agriculture, mining, and tourism, but it has faced numerous challenges in recent decades.
